Our story

From seven families to a community of more than 180.

Our journey began informally in 2012, when no more than seven families would meet to share meals and milestones. In 2014, we officially became the Western Happy Families Group — a volunteer-led, non-profit community built on kinship and care.

Today, twelve years on, we have grown into a vibrant network of relatives and close friends. We celebrate the seasons of the year together, support each other through life's events, and welcome every new family as one of our own.

What we stand for

Values that hold us together.

1

Family First

We are relatives, neighbours, and friends — connected in more ways than one.

2

Generations Together

Elders, parents, and youth all have a seat at our table.

3

Non-profit & Volunteer-led

Run by families, for families — no fees, no titles, just service.

4

Youth Empowered

Almost half of us are young. We invest in their leadership.

Our year together

Four gatherings, every single year.

The rhythm of our community is set by the four moments we never miss — sacred, joyful, and full of food.

Ramadan

Ramadan Iftar

Breaking fast together as one extended family.

After Ramadan

Eid al-Fitr Gathering

Celebrating Eid with the children, the elders, and everyone in between.

Dhul Hijjah

Eid al-Adha Gathering

A second Eid together — food, laughter, and shared traditions.

Once a year

Annual Camp

Our flagship weekend in nature — families, youth, and unforgettable memories.

Youth Leadership Initiative

The next generation, already leading.

Nearly half of our community is young — and we believe in giving them the room to lead. Our Youth Leadership Initiative brings together around 20 young people who plan activities, mentor each other, and shape the future of our group.
